Doctor and Hospital Tie Up

Each staff working at YKROK must provide evidence of good health with a signed physical examination. All medical records are periodically updated. Staff members do not work if they are ill. A doctor on our rolls and various hospital tie up for pre-employment screening and when a staff member falls ill and returns back to the centre is approved by our doctor.

As for the children, we maintain a complete written record for each child in our care. Pertinent health histories (such as allergies, chronic conditions or susceptibilities) are also required. All health records, immunization records and emergency contacts are kept up to date and easily accessible in case of emergency. Upon arrival each day at the centre, the nurse will conduct a health check up to determine whether the child is included or excluded in the centre. If a child falls ill after arrival time, the child will be taken to the medial room till the parents arrive for pick up. In the meantime, we will administer a medicine dosage with the consent of the parent.

  • SOPs have been created implemented.
  • All Children must have physical examinations, immunizations and screening test results. The test dates are recorded on the school’s immunization form. The school Registered Nurse will remind the parents for upcoming vaccines.
  • Health provider’s name, address, telephone number and date of examination must be provided.
  • No person – teacher, substitute, volunteer worker, office worker, maintenance worker or other staff member who regularly associates with children shall be permitted to work unless they present (prior to commencing work) a certificate of good health from a licensed physician. This certificate must also state that they are capable of performing their assigned duties. The physical examination should include results of a H1N1 test.
  • No child is allowed in the school with long nails and a severe cough.
  • Children without fever who have mild symptoms associated with the common cold, sore throat, croup, bronchitis, rhinitis (runny nose), or otitis media (ear infection) shall NOT be denied admission, sent home from child care, or separated from other children in the facility.
  • Personal Hygiene Maintenance
  • Standard hand washing procedures are posted at every bathroom, classroom sink and kitchen.
  • Managerial staff will conduct ongoing monitoring, training and assessment of hygiene procedures and policies.
  • Disposable gloves will be provided for daily use.
  • All toys and equipment will be washed with appropriate cleansing solutions daily and air dried.
  • All surfaces are to be cleaned as needed.
  • Spills are specially handled immediately.
  • General cleaning is conducted daily.

How do you handle an accident or injury? We have a tie up with the nearest hospital in the event of a medical emergency. The centre carry’s medical insurance to admit the child in the hospital’s emergency care.

While we take precautions to prevent childhood accidents they are a normal part of growth and development as children begin testing their movements and limitations. If a child is injured or becomes ill while at our Centre, the teacher’s first priority is to meet the child’s physical needs and then inform the Centre Head. An emergency care routine is followed, the parents are informed and, if necessary, the child is taken to the closest, or designated, hospital in the centre’s vehicle to the hospital. An Illness and Accident Report is completed by the supervising teacher and reviewed by the Center Head. The Centre Head meets with the parents one-on-one to provide them with information on the nature of the accident and the actions we are taking to prevent the accident in the future.

Do you have a First Aid Kit on hand? A doctor on call and full time in house registered nurses are part of the medical team. A comprehensive first aid kit is maintained at every centre’s infirmary. First aid kits are monitored closely to ensure that all items are kept up to date and in plentiful supply. First aid kits are located in locked locations convenient to every staff member.

Do you train your staff on safety? YKROK invests heavily in safety training for all staff. We train staff in proper supervision and we routinely inspect the centre and equipment for hazards. How do prevent falls and bumps from happening at your Centre? The majority of accidents in this category occur outdoors. Proper supervision on the playground is a critical requirement. Indoor accidents most often occur from stumbling over toys, or standing or sitting on tables or other equipment. We train staff to be alert indoors and outdoors and give the children undivided attention to eliminate accidents of this nature.

How do you handle pushing, fighting, and biting? Pushing, fighting, and biting are a part of the socialization process that takes place among young children. Although normal, these behaviors must be redirected as they often result in injuries.

How do you ensure the health of each child and protect each child from communicable diseases while at the Centre? In the event of exposure to a communicable disease, example the H1N1, YKROK works with local health departments to ensure that everything possible is done to prevent further contamination. From the onset the identified child is separated from the other children and taken to the isolation area until her parent arrives. At this time, all items that may be contaminated are treated with disinfecting solutions or other chemicals mandated by the health department to prevent spreading of the disease. Every care is taken to ensure employees and children’s safety during this time. Once we have dealt with contamination the Centre Head informs each parent of the possibility that his or her child came in contact with a communicable disease. YKROK also provides parents with guidance as to the signs and symptoms to look for and any special remedies that may be required.

In the instance that a child would become ill during the day, the parent would be notified and the child would be cared for away from other children until picked up by his parent or transferred to the sick care facility. In the case of severe illness or injury our first priority is to meet the child’s physical needs. An emergency care procedure is followed in which the parents are informed and, if necessary, the child is taken to the closest, or designated, hospital. What are your procedures to maintaining appropriate medical records for children and staff? Our policies for preventing infection are key to maintaining conditions conducive to good health, and these begin with our staff. Our staffing ensures that substitute teachers and support staff are available in the event of illness or other related reasons for absenteeism. Every staff member receives proper training on our policies and procedures for minimizing the spread of illness and germs. Our Sanitation Policy covers procedures for cleaning, food preparation, diapering, hand washing, and laundering.

As a part of our process to maintain a healthy and safe environment, we follow stringent policies regarding information kept about the children. How you would respond to, and correct, risk issues, when identified (including a response to child abuse, injury, or unusual accidents)? Our in-house licensing team monitors licensing “non-compliance” on a daily basis. All licensing visits and activities are reported up through the system and a monthly trend and deviation report is generated and distributed to all levels of the organization. Managers utilize this report to identify negative trends and focus on opportunities for improvement. Additionally, each centre receives regular visits from management during which a minimum standards checklist is completed and action plans are developed for deviations from standards.

All incidents are called into a Pan India toll free number in order to properly code, document and manage incidents that may occur (student, auto, general liability and associate injuries). Each incident report is distributed to the Centre Head, Regional Manager, Divisional Head, and the Risk, Licensing and Legal teams. An investigation is opened immediately and if it is determined that a violation has indeed taken place, immediate action is take to correct and/or address the issue at hand. Each risk issue is evaluated independently to ensure a thorough and accurate response.
